Back in December, Mrs Keown met with the principals of Carntall Primary, Fivemiletown Primary and Fivemiletown College to discuss a link between the schools. An application for funding for a shared STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) project was made and we were successful. A lot of time and effort was put into planning an action- packed day for the Primary 7 children of all three schools and it was well worth it! Today the children met and listened to Chris Allen, a local architect, as he explained all about the different types of settlements we have and who is involved in constructing a house. The children then got to work, making circuit boards using the latest in technological innovation: electric paint! Next they built houses using plywood, MDF and acrylic, screwing them together to make sure that the structure was secure. It took a lot of hard work and effort but finally the houses, complete with their internal lighting circuits, were complete. Before we left, we got to check out the 3D printer and watched as it produced a 3D lighthouse. It was truly an amazing day of learning and having fun together and we can't wait to all meet again!
